    Seasonal Edible Flowers

    Buy seasonal edible flowers

Buy seasonal edible flower selection. A selection of sweet or very mild flavoured flowers which are perfect for garnishing cakes, popping on puds or floating in your cocktails. These pretty little flowers are the ones used by professional chefs to garnish  desserts.

These flowers are all winter hardy and grown in our unheated polytunnels in the (hopefully!) milder Devon weather. The boxes will typically contain some pansies, violas and primulas as well as some other seasonal additions. The contents will vary slightly throughout the winter but will typically contain approximately 55 sweet flowers of mixed colours.

We should add that we are a tiny family firm and do pick every box to order so if you want a particular range of colours then please do add to the notes as you go through the order process.

Please do preorder these if you need them for a specific dates as we don’t always have enough to send out short notice. You can pre-order here now as you will be asked to choose your preferred delivery date when you order.

Edible Flowers for Iced Wedding Cakes

Choose edible flowers for your iced wedding cake here.

Iced and semi-iced cakes are perfect for showcasing beautiful edible flowers because the flowers naturally adhere to the icing and allow your creativity to come to the fore. The fashion is now more towards soft butter iced cakes than royal icing but edible flower can still be used on the latter to great effect.

Things to consider. Do you want larger flowers for the cake topper and if so what is the diameter of the top tier of your cake? Do you want smaller flower to sit on the shoulders of the tiers where they meet to create a garland? Do you want a waterfall of flowers to come down the front of the cake? Do you want the symmetry of even sized identical flowers  or a natural organic look? Would you like to include some organic edible foliage as well?

Fill out your requirements below, pin pictures and ask any questions. We pick every box to order so as long as it is season we will happily pick to your specifications. Edible Leaves for Wedding Cakes

Buy edible leaves for your wedding cake. Your wedding is the most special day of your life. You want it to be perfect and so do we. Maddocks Farm Organics offers a range of beautiful and unusual edible leaves with which to decorate your wedding cake. These are also perfect for cupcakes and for garnishing cocktails.

Different leaves work well in different situations so perhaps start by reading our guide to using edible  leaves on Wedding Cakes here.

As can be seen with the stunning cake by http://beesbakery.co.uk these particular leaves work best when adhered to cakes using butter cream…. similar to a petal confetti technique.   If you are planning on serving a naked cake or would like leaves to garnish a cake that you require to sit out for several hours then something more robust like Rosemary or Lavender sprigs would hold much better. Sweet Cicely Fern is a lovely tasty addition to cakes but needs to be used flat as it will wilt if left dangling over the edge of a cake for several hours on a hot day.

    Options

Mixed edible leaves in various styles and colours. As seen on the stunning cake from http://beesbakery.co.uk, a selection of tasty edible flowers of all flavours and colours. Available to buy from March to October.

Sweet Cicely Fern 10 x fronds. These are sent out as whole fronds which can be broken up into smaller pieces for cupcakes etc.

Rosemary Sprigs – non flowering. 10 x sprigs of approximately 14cm in length. Available March to October.

Lavender Sprigs – non flowering. 20 x sprigs of approximately 7cm in length. Available May to October.

Basil Sprigs – Miniature robust basil which holds well on cakes. Available July-September

Our edible leaves are sent out by overnight courier. For a Saturday wedding we suggest ordering them to arrive on the Friday and they will be fine refrigerated until putting on the cake the next day. You can choose the delivery date and address when you order. To avoid disappointment we would suggest pre-order them well in advance as we are a small firm which is lucky enough to have a great reputation so we sell out of flowers every week during the summer.

If you’d like any advice on using edible leaves then do email Jan at maddockfarmorganics@gmail.com

    Edible Petal Confetti

Petal confetti cakes are this year’s big trend and very popular for both weddings and vintage tea parties. Our edible petal confetti has recently featured in BRIDES and Rock n Roll Brides.

Edible flower confetti, or flowerfetti, is a wonderful way of producing a stunning and natural looking cake with complete ease. What more could you want than a beautiful wedding cake that takes only 5 minutes to decorate and costs a fraction of the amount a sugar crafted cake would.

This large box contains enough flowers to provide petals to cover two 8 inch cakes. We supply our edible petal confetti in rainbow colours and can also pop some wee violas in there as highlights but if you wanted it in just one colour or shade, or one type of flower as shown below with orange calendulas or blue and purple cornflowers then include your preferences in the ‘comments section’ when you order and we will pick accordingly. We pick every box to order.

Alternatively scatter one boxful on a cake and the other on salads, in ice cubes, in jellies, on puds, over rice dishes etc etc…… you name it.

All the wedding cakes on this page are made by the very fabulous Bees Bakery if you’d like somebody else to do all the hard work for you.

    Dried Edible Cornflower Petals

ALL DRIED FLOWERS ARE SENT BY COURIER VIA NEXT WORKING DAY DELIVERY.

Our organic dried edible cornflower petals are in a league of their own. They are sown, grown, harvested, dried and packaged on our farm, all by hand, and with great care. Thus there are non of the bits of leaf or stem that you get in the imported mechanically harvested alternatives.

As such they are perfect as a garnish, an ingredient and also used as beautiful natural food colouring. Just grind them up in a good pestle and mortar  and you have natural colours that won't send children (or adults for that matter) bouncing around the ceiling.

For those of you that thought that cornflowers were just blue then think again. We sell pink, red, purple, black AND blue cornflowers and for those that can't decide which to choose then we have a stunning confetti of mixed cornflower petals for you to enjoy.

Cornflower petals weigh almost nothing so our 2.5grm tins are stuffed to the brim (careful when opening them) and provide more than enough cornflowers to decorate several cakes or savoury dishes. They also add very pretty flecks of colour when used in baking or making meringues, fudge or marshmallows.

We send out our petals in screw lid tins to keep them dry and protected from sunlight that will fade them. The tins protect the petals in transit and can be recycled with your regular can recycling but they are so pretty that we imagine that you will keep them to store further treasures. How are you going to use yours?

APOLOGIES DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND THESE ARE SOLD OUT UNTIL NEW SEASONS PICKING AT THE BEGINNING OF JUNE. YOU CAN PRE-ORDER THEM HERE THOUGH AND WE WILL SEND AS SOON AS THEY ARE READY.

    Dried Edible Flowers – mixed

ALL DRIED FLOWERS ARE SENT BY COURIER VIA NEXT WORKING DAY DELIVERY.

Our mixed dried edible petals encapsulate all that is lovely about a Devon summer. They are organically sown, grown, harvested, dried and packaged on our farm, all by hand, and with great care. Thus there are non of the bits of leaf or stem that you get in the imported mechanically harvested version – just beautiful multi-coloured petals.

As we are a very small firm our flowers can be harvested daily in small batches for total freshness. Every box of our mixed dried edible flowers contains the very best of what is flowering and therefore every box is unique as the flowers change with the season. At the base of all the mixes though are golden strands of calendulas, fragrant rose petals and multi-coloured cornflower stars.

Our mixed dried edible flowers are lovely as a garnish and strewn over both sweet and savoury dishes alike. They are also perfect stirred though baking; beaten into meringue mix; folded into soufflés; or drizzled into dressings. One of our chefs likes to pop them into blinis and another into jellies. Another customer just loves to throw them with gay abandon all over the beautiful pizzas that she creates.

What will you do with yours?

Our mixed dried edible flowers come in 4gm tins. This means that they are sealed and can be resealed allowing no light or moisture in to spoil the contents. Thus they will keep for many months – if they last that long. The tins can be recycled with your old bean cans or, because they are thing of beauty in their own right, they can be saved to store more treasures.

    Dried Edible Rose Petals

Maddocks Farm Organics is the only source of organically grown culinary roses in the U.K. All other culinary organic roses are imported. Our dried edible roses are superb though we say so ourselves and our customers agree. The varieties are chosen after extensive laboratory discover those with the highest fragrance and flavour. All our roses are British and originally sourced from David Austin, before being put through organic conversion, so they are the very best.

Our roses are grow organically on our farm in accordance with the strict criteria dictated by the Soil Association. We are a tiny firm so these petals are lovingly harvest, dried and packaged here by hand by one of our team of two (and an occasional half!). Only the best make the grade. You will agree when you open the tin because the perfume will instantly hit you.

Dried organic rose petals are perfect just steeped in water for a cup of rose tea that evokes a perfect summer’s day.  Alternatively they are used in numerous sweet and savoury dishes and particularly in Middle Eastern Cuisine where they are the basis for the famous Turkish Delight.

You can choose between mixed pinks, oranges/reds, and general mixed.  There will be some variation in colour throughout the season because different varieties of roses flower at different times and we aim to get the dried rose petals onto the shop within a week of harvesting them.

If you’d like to buy fresh organic edible roses then they are available here when in season.

We send out our petals in screw lid tins to keep them dry and protected from sunlight that will fade them. The tins protect the petals in transit and can be recycled with your regular can recycling but they are so pretty that we imagine that you will keep them to store further treasures.

    Dried Edible Calendula Petals

ALL DRIED FLOWERS ARE SENT BY COURIER VIA NEXT WORKING DAY DELIVERY.

Our organic dried edible calendula petals are stunning. They are sown, grown, harvested, dried and packaged on our farm, all by hand, and with great care. Thus there are non of the bits of leaf or stem that you get in the imported mechanically harvested version – just beautiful golden petals.

Calendulas have great nutritional value and have been used in the kitchen for hundreds of years. The dried petals have been described as poor man’s saffron and whilst the colour that they impart is more subtle there is nothing poor about them! They are both used in baking and strewn over dishes – my particular favourites are paellas and tagines where the beautiful strands of yellow look simply stunning.

If you have any leftover from your cooking it is useful to know that calendulas have wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties and are wonderful for treating bruises, sores, cuts and sunburn and a salve or oil made from steeped calendula petals is a wonderful natural remedy to reduce scar tissue and even treat piles….. what more could you want!
