    Dried Edible Cornflower Petals

ALL DRIED FLOWERS ARE SENT BY COURIER VIA NEXT WORKING DAY DELIVERY.

Our organic dried edible cornflower petals are in a league of their own. They are sown, grown, harvested, dried and packaged on our farm, all by hand, and with great care. Thus there are non of the bits of leaf or stem that you get in the imported mechanically harvested alternatives.

As such they are perfect as a garnish, an ingredient and also used as beautiful natural food colouring. Just grind them up in a good pestle and mortar  and you have natural colours that won't send children (or adults for that matter) bouncing around the ceiling.

For those of you that thought that cornflowers were just blue then think again. We sell pink, red, purple, black AND blue cornflowers and for those that can't decide which to choose then we have a stunning confetti of mixed cornflower petals for you to enjoy.

Cornflower petals weigh almost nothing so our 2.5grm tins are stuffed to the brim (careful when opening them) and provide more than enough cornflowers to decorate several cakes or savoury dishes. They also add very pretty flecks of colour when used in baking or making meringues, fudge or marshmallows.

We send out our petals in screw lid tins to keep them dry and protected from sunlight that will fade them. The tins protect the petals in transit and can be recycled with your regular can recycling but they are so pretty that we imagine that you will keep them to store further treasures. How are you going to use yours?

APOLOGIES DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND THESE ARE SOLD OUT UNTIL NEW SEASONS PICKING AT THE BEGINNING OF JUNE. YOU CAN PRE-ORDER THEM HERE THOUGH AND WE WILL SEND AS SOON AS THEY ARE READY.

    Dried Edible Flowers – mixed

ALL DRIED FLOWERS ARE SENT BY COURIER VIA NEXT WORKING DAY DELIVERY.

Our mixed dried edible petals encapsulate all that is lovely about a Devon summer. They are organically sown, grown, harvested, dried and packaged on our farm, all by hand, and with great care. Thus there are non of the bits of leaf or stem that you get in the imported mechanically harvested version – just beautiful multi-coloured petals.

As we are a very small firm our flowers can be harvested daily in small batches for total freshness. Every box of our mixed dried edible flowers contains the very best of what is flowering and therefore every box is unique as the flowers change with the season. At the base of all the mixes though are golden strands of calendulas, fragrant rose petals and multi-coloured cornflower stars.

Our mixed dried edible flowers are lovely as a garnish and strewn over both sweet and savoury dishes alike. They are also perfect stirred though baking; beaten into meringue mix; folded into soufflés; or drizzled into dressings. One of our chefs likes to pop them into blinis and another into jellies. Another customer just loves to throw them with gay abandon all over the beautiful pizzas that she creates.

What will you do with yours?

Our mixed dried edible flowers come in 4gm tins. This means that they are sealed and can be resealed allowing no light or moisture in to spoil the contents. Thus they will keep for many months – if they last that long. The tins can be recycled with your old bean cans or, because they are thing of beauty in their own right, they can be saved to store more treasures.

    Dried Edible Rose Petals

Maddocks Farm Organics is the only source of organically grown culinary roses in the U.K. All other culinary organic roses are imported. Our dried edible roses are superb though we say so ourselves and our customers agree. The varieties are chosen after extensive laboratory discover those with the highest fragrance and flavour. All our roses are British and originally sourced from David Austin, before being put through organic conversion, so they are the very best.

Our roses are grow organically on our farm in accordance with the strict criteria dictated by the Soil Association. We are a tiny firm so these petals are lovingly harvest, dried and packaged here by hand by one of our team of two (and an occasional half!). Only the best make the grade. You will agree when you open the tin because the perfume will instantly hit you.

Dried organic rose petals are perfect just steeped in water for a cup of rose tea that evokes a perfect summer’s day.  Alternatively they are used in numerous sweet and savoury dishes and particularly in Middle Eastern Cuisine where they are the basis for the famous Turkish Delight.

You can choose between mixed pinks, oranges/reds, and general mixed.  There will be some variation in colour throughout the season because different varieties of roses flower at different times and we aim to get the dried rose petals onto the shop within a week of harvesting them.

If you’d like to buy fresh organic edible roses then they are available here when in season.

We send out our petals in screw lid tins to keep them dry and protected from sunlight that will fade them. The tins protect the petals in transit and can be recycled with your regular can recycling but they are so pretty that we imagine that you will keep them to store further treasures.

    Dried Edible Calendula Petals

ALL DRIED FLOWERS ARE SENT BY COURIER VIA NEXT WORKING DAY DELIVERY.

Our organic dried edible calendula petals are stunning. They are sown, grown, harvested, dried and packaged on our farm, all by hand, and with great care. Thus there are non of the bits of leaf or stem that you get in the imported mechanically harvested version – just beautiful golden petals.

Calendulas have great nutritional value and have been used in the kitchen for hundreds of years. The dried petals have been described as poor man’s saffron and whilst the colour that they impart is more subtle there is nothing poor about them! They are both used in baking and strewn over dishes – my particular favourites are paellas and tagines where the beautiful strands of yellow look simply stunning.

If you have any leftover from your cooking it is useful to know that calendulas have wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties and are wonderful for treating bruises, sores, cuts and sunburn and a salve or oil made from steeped calendula petals is a wonderful natural remedy to reduce scar tissue and even treat piles….. what more could you want!
